2. Story Lab
OUR WORLD NEEDS BETTER STORIES
The Story Lab focuses on understanding how stories work from within — how they take shape, hold together, and create meaning.
Participants join according to their experience and the stage of their writing.
Within the progression of the Labs, writing moves from open exploration toward narrative awareness.
Work is organised around specific story elements and narrative concepts. Each concept is first introduced in clear theoretical terms and then explored through close reading of literary texts, using a focused filter that reveals how it functions within the work.
Rather than being applied as a technique, each filter becomes a point of attention. Participants learn to recognise it across different stories, returning to it repeatedly until the concept becomes familiar and gradually internalised.
Through this ongoing movement between concept, reading, and writing, narrative thinking deepens and becomes both more precise and more intuitive. Over time, an understanding of what gives a story coherence, tension, and meaning becomes part of the writer’s own practice.
Writing develops when we learn to see how stories work.
